Open Access journal publishing and Article Processing Charges
The online version of all River Publishers journals are published as Open Access (OA), whilst print subscriptions are available at a surcharge. Open Access journals are scholarly journals that are available online to the reader "without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself." Open access enables articles to be published online and made accessible to anyone, anywhere and at any time without restrictions and at no cost. By making such research freely available in this way, open access accelerates research and therefore learning. At the same time it also increases the visibility, usage and impact of an authors' work. This publishing model also removes permission barriers: unrestricted use of all published material is made possible due to flexible intellectual property regulations for authors.
As such, all research articles published in River Publishers journals are open access and therefore accessible online to the global research community. They are available via the River Publishers website as well as major international archives, this to comply with the NIH Public Access Policy, the Wellcome Trust Open Access Policyand other research funding agency policies on open access.
Advantages of River Publishers Open Access journals include:
Article Publishing Charges (APCs)
For a publisher to be able to sustain open access for all its journal publications, it is necessary to cover the editorial and production costs by collecting Article Processing Charges. River Publishers have opted for an author friendly APC, setting a total which lies below the industry average, this to help publication and optimize international dissemination of quality peer reviewed content. The APC for all our journals is EUR 300.
All journal articles are published under a gold open access model and are permanently free to be read by everyone. These articles require an article publishing charge (APC) to be paid either by the author or on their behalf (for example by their institution or funder). If an author would like their article to be published under a gold open access model, but cannot afford the APC, then individual waiver requests are considered on a case-by-case basis and may be granted where the Editor-in-Chief and River Publishers deem appropriate.
Included in the APC fee is thorough peer review, full production, indexing of published articles and international promotion and dissemination.
